For our Spring Concert, “Love Is A Game”, Artistic Director Jared Baker presents two evocative, full-length works inspired by distinct musical artists.
The evening opens with a new creation set to Bon Iver’s acclaimed debut album, For Emma, Forever Ago. This poignant work delves into themes of isolation, loneliness, and pain, mirroring the album’s origins. Crafted during a harsh Wisconsin winter in a cabin north of Eau Claire, Justin Vernon’s deeply personal compositions recount a transformative chapter in his life, bringing a sense of raw authenticity to the stage.
Closing the program is a revival of Nova Linea’s audience favorite, “Love Is A Game”. Choreographed by Jared Baker to the music of Adele, this moving piece reflects on the profound effects of divorce and heartache. Told through the perspective of a woman, it explores her escape from a toxic relationship, the ripple effects on her son, and her journey toward healing and self-discovery.

Join Nova Linea Contemporary Dance for our first workshop for local area youth on Sunday, April 6th, from 11AM – 2PM at Accent on Dance Studios (N20W22942 Watertown Rd, Waukesha, WI 53186)! Designed for advanced dancers aged 13 and up, this workshop is a unique opportunity to train with the company following their performances of “Love Is A Game” at the Marcus Performing Arts Center.
Dancers will take part in a modern class taught by Company Artist Alayna Hauke, followed by a Nova Linea Repertoire class with Artistic Director Jared Baker, featuring material from the company’s new work, “This (My Excavation).” Whether you’re looking to refine your technique, expand your artistry, or experience Nova Linea’s movement style firsthand, this workshop is not to be missed!
Students should sign up for the workshop through their studio’s group ticket form if their studio is organizing one, or register individually.
