As Artistic Director, I aim to make Nova Linea Contemporary Dance accessible to anyone, thereby entertaining and engaging a wide audience. Through a physically expressive style of movement, the company will lead audiences through stories, themes, and emotions to elicit a thought-provoking response. Nova Linea will strive to create movement that challenges the audience to form their own opinions about the work by providing them with a rich, authentic performance experience.
Nova Linea will concentrate on establishing both strong inter- and intra- personal relationships. This connection could be between two dancers, or between a dancer and a viewer. As a director, it is important for me to encourage dancers to give of themselves during the creative process as well as during performances. This enables the audience to feel a personal connection to the work and creates a relationship from stage to audience.
My plan as resident choreographer for Nova Linea Contemporary Dance is to create work with a diverse blend of movement aesthetics. My own personal choreographic style requires dancers to have an innate internal rhythm and a keen awareness of their bodies in space. As a choreographer, I focus on clarity of movement and full body engagement. I strive to find breath and flow in my work, incorporating circularity in my movement. In addition, music has always been a driving force in my life, and it shines through my work. A musically driven piece allows a dancer to find rhythm and dynamics from an external source, supplementing their own internal rhythm.
